The contribution of an environmental documentary movie on the development of vocabulary of Turkish language learners: Home documentary

This study, which sought answers to the questions about the contribution of environmental documentary films to the vocabulary development of students learning Turkish as a foreign language, is an experimental and quantitative (survey research) research. The study group of the research consists of preparatory class students learning Turkish at Bursa Uludağ University Turkish Teaching Research and Application Center (ULUTÖMER). The material of this study has been formed from the words in scenario of Arthus-Bertrand's (2009) "Home" environmental documentary film. The words were adapted to the B2 level in accordance with the CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference), B2 level acquisitions and applied as a vocabulary test. The data were collected with the "Vocabulary Test" form, "Student Profile and Opinion Determination" and "5-point Likert Type" scales applied to students learning Turkish at ULUTÖMER in the fall semester of 2020-2021. The collected data were analyzed with quantitative data analysis methods and possible differences between pre-post-vocabulary tests were determined. Then, by conducting Paired-sample's t-test between the pre-post-tests' averages, the contribution of environmental documentary films on the development of language skills, daily and environmental vocabulary development of those learning Turkish as a foreign language was determined.
