The effect of programming courses created with short videos in online learning on student academic success and attendance

The aim of this research is to prepare the educational content of the programming course consisting of Short-Term Videos Lesson Module (KSVDM) and Standard-Time Videos Lesson Module (SSVDM) on the Mass Open Online Course (MOOC) platform, and to determine the academic success, participation, video completion rates and distance of the participants. to analyze their views on education. The aim of the study is to determine whether there is a difference between the academic achievement, participation and video completion rates of the participants who chose CSVDM compared to the participants who chose CSVDM. The research universe consists of users who want to learn the basic python software language on the Udemy website, which is the MOOC platform in 2021. The research sample consists of 1376 participants enrolled in the KSVDM course published on the Udemy platform and 1523 participants enrolled in the SSVDM course. The contents of the KSVDM and SSVDM programming courses, the contents of the departments that teach the python software language of the universities were examined and the contents were prepared considering the time limits that the Udemy platform provides free service so that everyone can access the courses easily. In the research, academic achievement test and distance education student opinions scale were used as data collection tools. The academic achievement test and the distance education student opinions scale were prepared with Google Forms and presented to the participants before and after the video modules. SPSS 22 program was used to analyze the data obtained from the participants in the study. In order to determine whether the data collected in the research is normally distributed or not, the skewness and kurtosis values were calculated and the necessary analyzes were made for the results. According to Udemy data, there are a total of 651 active participants, 267 of whom are in the KSVDM course and 384 in the SSVDM course. A total of 108 participants from active users, 56 for KSVDM and 52 for SSVDM, completed all tests and scales. It was concluded that the average of the course completion rates of the female participants in the CSVDM course was higher than the average of the course completion rates of the male participants. There is a significant difference in the course completion rates among the participants in the VDADM course according to their gender. In both course modules, the course completion rate of female participants is high. It has been determined that there is a significant difference between the academic achievement tests of the KSVDM participants, and there is a significant difference between the academic achievement tests of the SSVDM participants. When the average of the academic achievement test scores of the participants in the CSVDM and SSVDM courses were compared, it was determined that there was no significant difference between them. As a result of the statistical information provided by the Udemy platform, it has been determined that the number of interrupted videos in the KSVDM course is higher than the number of interrupted videos in the SSVDM course. In the course evaluation score given by the participants on the Udemy platform, it was determined that the courses evaluated out of 5 points scored above 4.5 for KSVDM and SSVDM. The scores on the distance education student opinions scale applied to the participants in the KSVDM and SSVDM courses were compared and it was concluded that there was no significant difference between the groups.
