Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, online quizzes, generally named "Personality, Character, IQ tests" and entitled like "This quiz will reveal your true personality!", "How intelligent are you?", are enormously popular among individuals. These quizzes are also known as "Onedio quizzes". This study aims to reveal the factors driving the students to take online popular quizzes and investigate whether the relationship between these factors and self-esteem. The study was designed quantitative data collection technics, therefore a questionnaire was applied to Anadolu University Faculty of Communication Sciences students. The sample consisted of 265 students. Quantitative data were analyzed by Chi-square, Pearson correlation coefficient, Independent sample t-test, One way ANOVA, Tukey HSD and Homogeneous subsets. Our findings revealed four factors for taking online popular quizzes. These are curiosity-habit, entertainment, self-satisfaction, time spending, respectively. Besides, the driving factors differentiate according to gender. Accordingly, females tend to take quizzes for self-satisfaction and entertainment. Findings showed that the most taken online popular quiz categories are Psychology, Character and IQ-General Knowledge tests. Further, there is also significant difference for taking popular quiz categories between females and males. Whereas, female students take more Psychology quizzes than males, male students take more IQ-General Knowledge tests than females. However, taking online popular quizzes was not associated with self esteem. Findings of the research were discussed in the light of previous studies and some suggestions were given for future research.
