Comparison of Charles Darwin's understanding of evolution with the creative evolution understanding of Henri Bergson

The purpose of this study is that evolution cannot be evaluated solely in the context of Charles Darwin's views, but that Henri Bergson, who presents the existence of a creative evolution in the universe, should also be known. This study deals with the need to look at today's understanding of evolution and its work from different perspectives. The subject of the study is to compare Charles Darwin and Henri Bergson's understanding of evolution. The issue of evolution consisted of the answers given to the questions of the source of the life that human beings constantly wondered and how the existing beings came from, even before the first written sources. In this study, the subject of evolution is limited to the thoughts of the two philosophers mentioned above. This limitation stems from the lack of comparative studies on this subject. Since the scope of the subject of evolution is very wide, it is appreciated that it is quite difficult to deal with the whole subject here. In this study, Darwin's theory of evolution and its laws, the scientific certainty of these laws, and whether Darwin's theory of evolution is composed of immutable laws in the field of biology has been examined. How the other philosopher Bergson views the field of evolution with an understanding of evolution, which is a different perspective, has been examined. In the following chapters, Darwin and Bergson's understanding of evolution has been discussed comparatively. In this comparison, philosophers, how and in which direction the changes in living things are progressing, whether these changes have a purpose or not, have been discussed whether evolution is a result of a divine power or purely coincidental. The study was carried out with the literature search and the method of scanning the works of philosophers. In the end, the idea of evolution cannot be taken under the domination of the theory of any scientist and philosopher, and each thought should be considered as an effort to find the truth. Although Darwin's theory and Bergson's conception of evolution are combined in common acceptances at some point, they differ greatly. Darwin's theory of evolution proceeds along a materialist, mechanistic line, while Bergson's evolutionary understanding describes the process through freedom with active movement.
