Abstract (EN)
Objective: This study was conducted with the objective of determining the impact of integrating serious game simulation to neonatal resuscitation training on the neonatal resuscitation related knowledge, skills, satisfaction from training and self confidence in learning of nursing students. Method: The study is a randomized controlled, pre-test post-test designed and single blind study. This study was conducted on 90 students third grade of Akdeniz University Nursing Faculty, between September 2019 and January 2021. The students were allocated with simple randomization method to intervention (n=45) and control (n=45) groups. The training program prepared on the basis of neonatal resuscitation algorithm used neonatal resuscitation serious game simulation method. For data collection, "Individual Identification Form", "Neonatal Resuscitation Knowledge Level Evaluation Form", "Student Satisfaction and Self Confidence in Learning Scale" and "Neonatal Resuscitation Skills level Evaluation Form" were utilized. The data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 25.0 program. Results: A considerable increase was found in the knowledge and skills level of both groups, after the neonatal resuscitation training (p<0.05). Post-test measurements indicated statistically significant positive difference in the ventilation and chest compression performing skills of the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The score averages of Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning Scale and its sub-dimensions were high for both groups. Conclusion: It was concluded that the serious game simulation application used in neonatal resuscitation training is effective in raising the ventilation and compression performing skills and the student satisfaction and self-confidence in learning levels of students.
