An investigation of marital quality of couples in terms of attachment injuries and dyadic coping with stress variables

The aim of this study is to determine to what extent attachment injuries and dyadic coping with stress predict marital quality. The participants of the study were 489 people (194 men, 295 women) with at least one year of marital status. In the study, Marital Quality Scale, Marital Attachment Injuries Scale, Dyadic Coping Inventory, and Personal Information Form were used to obtain sociodemographic information about the participants. The dependent variable of the study was the quality of marriage, and the predictor variables were attachment and trauma, as the sub-dimensions of the attachment injuries variable, as well as emotion-focused common coping, problem-focused common coping, supportive dyadic coping by partner, negative dyadic coping by oneself, and negative dyadic coping by partner, as the sub-dimensions of the dyadic coping with stress. In line with this, Mann Whitney U-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) technique were used in order to examine whether there was a differentiation according to sociodemographic characteristics such as gender, education level, marriage type, marital duration and number of children. The analysis of the data in the study was made using the SPSS 23.0 package program. According to the results of the Standard Regression Analysis conducted in accordance with there search objectives, it was revealed that the variables of supportive dyadic coping by partner, attachment (insecure), emotion-focused common coping, problem-focused common dyadic coping, negative dyadic coping by oneself, and negative dyadic coping by partner significantly predicted the marital quality of the couples. Trauma variable was found not to be significant predictor of the marital quality variable. As a result of the analyzes made according to sociodemographic characteristics, it was found that there was a significant difference between the quality of marriage and the number of children, marital duration whereas no significant difference was found between the quality of marriage and gender, marriage style and education levels. The results of there search were evaluated within the scope of the relevant literature, and suggestions were made to the researchers in future studies.
