Abstract (EN)
Cracks occurring in the matrix of cement-based materials can cause serious durability problems in the short and long term. In addition, the maintenance and repair work of these cracks in structures such as underground structures and concrete silos containing damaging liquids are difficult and costly. For this reason, many approaches have been developed to improve the self-healing ability of cement-based materials. In this study, microcapsules containing sodium silicate were produced to improve the self-healing ability of fiber-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and normal mortars and their effectiveness in cement-based composites was investigated. In a systematic study, control mixtures without microcapsules and mixtures containing microcapsules at the rate of 5 percentage by weight of cement in UHPC and normal mortar mixtures were studied. Microcapsule-based self-healing mechanism was investigated by compressive strength, tensile strength, total and capillary water absorption, crack closure test and crack analysis. While autogenous self-healing mechanism was observed in control mixtures, microcapsule-based improvements were detected by comparing with microencapsulated mixtures. Significant recovery(self-healing) ratios were obtained in all experimental results. While the positive effect of microcapsules on healing was observed in the experiments, it was observed that this effect was higher in normal mortars.
