Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, strength, permeability and stability properties of cement stabilized soil exposed to sulfate salts were investigated. For this purpose, unconfined compression tests, cloride-ion penetration tests, freezing-thawing tests and one dimensional swelling tests were conducted. Three different type of cement such as ordinary portland cement, pozzolanic cement and sulfate resistence cement were chosen for cement stabilization. Specimens were compacted at 0, 5 ,10 and 15 % cement inclusion level, then exposed to magnesium and sodium sulfates in order to observe sulfate effect. After 1, 7, 28 and 90 curing days, alteration on strentgth and permeability were determined. In one dimensional swelling test, the swelling values were recorded in every 24 hours until a constant value were obtained. According to the results obtained from experimental work, an increase in cement inclusion level and curing time were led to increase in strength and decrease in permeability. Besides, micro craks caused by ettringite formation induced strength loss and decreasing permeability. In one dimensional swelling tests, the swelling values decreased by cement addition. However, the optimum cement inclusion level were obtained as % 10.
