Chinese culture and management in China: an examination in Urumchi

Abstract (EN)

Rapid development and economical growth in China has become a threat for the developed countries. The aim of this study is to investigate the chinese culture and whether there exists a chinese management style or not in order to scrutinize the success of China. The aim of the dissertation, its significance and scope, the methodology and limitations of study were disccused in the introduction section. The remaining part of the dissertations are organized in three sections. In the first one, the related literature were reviewed by discussing copcepts related to culture and management, the effect of culture on management, and the dimensions of culture in order to establish a theoretical base for the rest of the study. The second section inludes discussions regarding China such as the political, economical, and educational structure of China, its management philosophies both contemporary and in ancient times, information about chinese businesses, chinese leadership style, human resource management in China, management and chinese style leadership. In the third part, the results of interviews (were conducted with eight companies in the city of Ürümqi, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous District, China) were presented as a table. The questions in the interviews covers issues such as decision making models of chinese companies, their human resource management and competitive advantages, the motives of their economical successes, and the differences between other foreign companies etc. Also, in the appendix part the organisation charts of those companies were presented.
