Özet (EN)
A survey study made on the assessment of influence of the chin prominence on the perception of the profile aesthetic between genders by orthodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, people undergone orthognathic surgery and laypeople. A total of 732 participants of the above mentioned five different groups participated in this study which was prepared in the electronic environment. The profile photograph of one female and one male showing the skeletal class 1 values, and the vertical direction values within normal limits, were modified in the Photoshop program to idealization of values of the soft tissue. Chin was moved posteriorly up to 10 mm and anteriorly up to 8 mm with 2 mm intervals in male and female profile photos showing ideal values according to Ricketts's E line. Participants were asked to assess 11 female and 11 male profile photos and also their own profiles. In order to assess the perception of chin more easily, the photos were prepared in black and white in this study. The datas were analyzed with SPSS 20.0 software package. Kruskal-Wallis H test was applied to score profiles. . Considering the scores the profile photos obtained, it was found that the ideal, slightly convex and slightly concave profile was more acceptable for females in comparison with the ideal and slightly concave profile for the males. Female participants had a higher rate of desire for surgery than the male participants in assessed photos (p <0.05). Significantly higher rate of surgery was desired for protrusive chin profiles compared to the retrusive chin profile, in both genders.
