The perception of nursing care of parents who apply to pediatricemergency department and influencing factors

Object: The objective of this research was to analyze the perception of nursing care of parents who apply to pediatric emergency department and influencing factors. Method: This research was conducted as descriptive, cross-senctional, correlational and comperative with 160 parents at the Pediatric Emergency Department of Nevvar Salih İşgören Hospital in Dokuz Eylul University. The data were collected by a questionnaire which was formed by the researchers, that included the items about the parent's perception of nursing care and the factors affecting them. Findings: The average age of the mothers who participated in the study was 34.03+6.32 (22-51 ages) years and the average of the fathers was 37.68+6.13 (26.53 ages) years. At the end of the study, it was determined that %98.1 (n=157) of the parents who applied to the pediatric emergency department were satisfied with nursing care.The average score of the parent's nursing care perception questionnaire was 125.28+15.05.It was detected that child sex,number of children, chronic illness,mother working status,father workinsg status,parental attendance,imcome level and social insurance factors are significant factors that affect parent's perception of nursing care (F=2.008, p= 0.032). When it comes to examine which variables has significant effect alone, it can be seen that age of child and sex of child have significant effect, respectively. Conclusion: The results of the study revealed that the necessity of knowing the perception of parents in order to increase the quality of nursing care. According to the findings obtained from the research, a new measurement tool should be developed to measure the factors that are affecting the perception of parents on nursing care.
