An examination of a facebook group as a teacher professional development tool for cildren' s rights education

This study was designed as a case study, aimed to analyze the activities on children's rights (CR) and children's rights education (CRE) shared by the classroom teachers in a Facebook group and to analyze the professional competence of classroom teachers about children's rights (CR) education. The study groups of this research consist of the Facebook group where teachers shared information about CRE and the study group with whom the online interviews were realized. The Facebook group of the study where teachers shared information on CRE consists of 265 people who were determined with snowball sampling method. The study group with whom online interviews were realized consists of 19 people who were determined with criterion sampling method. In this research, Interview Forms for the Evaluation of Efficacy of the Facebook Group and the shared documents in the Facebook group were utilized for data collection. As a result of the research, it has been observed that the classroom teachers in the study group had some suggestions on CRE, exchanged ideas, shared related materials and activities, produced solutions for CR and CRE problems in the group and corrected each other's deficiencies when needed. Additionally, the results of online interviews showed that this Facebook group is useful to professional development of classroom teachers related CRE
