The view of bad characters in children's books and perceptions of second school students on bad characters

The study was carried out to compare the views of bad characters in children's books and the opinions of secondary school students about bad characters. The research was planned with document analysis pattern. While creating the dataset, children's books in novels were used by considering the variety of authors and publishers. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted to reach the views of secondary school students. In the interview form which is created to determine students' perceptions of bad characters, first of all, students were asked to write a story centered on a bad person. Then, the question of who could be called "bad" was asked, regardless of their stories. In the study, the views of bad characters in children's books, were named under several categories such as "views about habits, views about behaviors, views about physical properties, views about clothes, views about nicknames, views about their professions, views about criminal tools, views about illegal works and other features". In addition to examining the works, the opinions of secondary school students about bad characters were found out and evaluated through semi-structured interview forms in order to determine the perceptions of secondary school students about bad characters. Within the results obtained, it was observed that some stereotypes were used in describing bad characters. Similarities were detected in the appearance of the characters described as bad in the books with bad character perceptions of the students in the study.
