The appearance of the professionals in children's books and the perceptions of the secondary school students

The research was carried out with the help of document analysis design in order to examine and compare the thoughts of the professions and secondary school students about these professions in the children's books. In this study, children's books in the genres of novels and stories, whose target group is children in secondary school, and the opinions of secondary school students about the occupations were used as data sources. The reason why novel and story genres are preferred in the study is that there are many fictional texts and characters in these genres, and the novel and story present real life and people cross-sections. In this study, the characters that have occupations in children's books are examined under the titles of gender, physical appearance, emotion and behavior and the occupations given through child characters are shown in certain categories. In addition, in order to create a wealth of data, secondary school students' thoughts about the occupations and pictures of the occupations were also classified. In the study, the opinions of the professions and secondary school students' thoughts about these professions were examined and compared in the children's books. In the presentation of the professions, some stereotypes were made in terms of gender and physical appearance, and when evaluated in terms of the professions presented in the books, more positive emotions and behaviors were brought to the forefront other than the profession of teacher and director, it was found that the professions given through child characters were different from the professions that secondary school students wanted to do in the future and that the opinions of the students regarding the professions and the prominent occupational views in the books were sometimes different.
