The effects of iron deficiency anemia on the neutrophils in the children

Abstract (EN)

Iron deficiency anemia is one of the most comman health care problem all over the world. Iron is essential for almost all living organisms and takes part in a number of important biological processes like cognitive functions, growing, endocrin system, synthesis of neurotransmitters and immüne system. Various studies showed that iron deficiency anemia reduces neutrophil function with decreased myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, causes impaired bactericidal activity, depression of T-lymphocyte numbers with thymic atrophy and also causes T lymphocyte-induced proliferative response, impaired natural killer cell activity, lower levels of T lymphocytes as well as CD 4, lower levels of CD4/CD8. Aim of this study is to invastigate effects of ıron deficiency anemia on the levels of IL-1B, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IFN-?, TNF-? IL-13 and neutrophil surface antjen expression CD11a, CD11b, CD11c, CD18, CD45, CD54 CD64 and monocyte surface antijen expression CD71. For this purpose, we excluded childrens, who received immünosupressive medication such as steroid or chemotherapy within the last one month, patients with renal failure, genetic disorders, malignancies and acute or chronic infection diseases who had healthy infants by ceasarean section in term, applied to Bülent Ecevit University School of Medicine Pediatrics Clinics Section between June 2011 and January 2013. the study were children aged between 6 months and 5 years of age. Children were divided into two groups. 58 childrenwere taken place in this study. Group 1 was defined as childrens with have ıron deficiency anemia (n=30)and group 2 was defined as children with no ıron deficiency anemia (n=28).These levels of cytokines and cell surface antigens were measured two groups and again in iron deficiency group after their medical treatment. Evaluate the results of cytokine values in both groups and in children with iron deficiency anemia after treatment were found no significant differences. Neutrophıl CD64 expression were significantly higher in the group where the DEA, the treatment decreased, but there was not a statistically significant decrease. May not be appropriate for use as a marker of infection in children with IDA CD64 ekspresssıon interpreted as.Monocyte CD71 expression was not statistically significant difference between the control group and the DEA, but the DEA was found to be significantly lower in patients with post-treatment. Cell CD71 ekspressıon soluble transferrin receptor in the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia, whether it is as sensitive as a test in order to expose a larger study with more patients are needed. In our study, no evidence of iron deficiency anemia cause changes in neutrophil surface markers.Neutrophil functions in accordance with this method, the evaluation of the need for more comprehensive studies to decide whether we think.
