Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study was to determine the effect of training children using animated video for the prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs) on the recurrence of UTIs. Method: This study was conducted with 30 children (experimental (n=15) and control (n=15) groups) between 5 and 12 years old who were diagnosed with UTIs at Akdeniz University between January and July, 2016. An "Animated Video CD for the prevention of UTIs" was prepared by the researcher. The data were collected using questionnaire forms. Results: This study found that all the participants were female. It also found that 93.3% had previously UTIs, 60% clean their perinea by washing from the back to the front. In the second and third follow-ups, it was observed that all of the children in the experimental group performed their perineum cleaning after visiting the toilet by washing from the front to the back and paid attention to their personal hygiene, while there were children in the control group who were still doing so improperly in both follow-ups. This study found that the infection didn't recurren in the experimental group provided with the training about UTIs, while 60% of the children in the control group experienced UTIs again. There was a significant difference in recurrence of the infections between these groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study found that the training children using animated video was effective in eliminating factors that trigger UTIs in children and in preventing the recurrence of UTIs.
