Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTIt is certain that, physical activities which are commenned at on early agehave many advantages. Most importantly, it assist in children?s physical fitness. It issupported by many sources that children who attend regular sports are more socialand their academic achievement is increase. The aim of this study is to explain the relation between children?s physical?sfitness and their academic achievement. Students were chosen from 7 differentsregion of Antalya (age=11-13, n= 210). To reveal the students physical fitness, longjump without excilirating running, sit-ups, push-ups, sit and reach, 20 meters speedrunning, flamingo balance, reaction speed and paw powertests were applied. Allstudents were applied to antrometric measurements such as height, weight andskinfold thickness.Their body fat percertages were desigrated. Each student wasapplied to Rosenberg seelf-esteem scale, alsostudents grade averages were evaluatedto assess their academic achievement. As statistic methods; T test, varianci analysisfrom Post Hoc tests Tukey were used and to understand the relations Pearsoncorrelation was used.In conclution significant positive relation between students visual reactionspeed (r=0.192;p<0.01) and %fat(r=0.143; p<0.05) and their academic achievementwas found. When the relation between the physical fitness parameter in regard togender and academic success was studied,.While possitive relation was foundbetween female students academic achievements and their %fat ( r=0.260;p<0.01) ,negative relations was found between avarage reaction time ( r=-0.207;p<0.05) .Inregard to regions negative relations was found between academic achievement and1.region?s sit and reach (r=-0.474;p<0.01), 5. regions height (r=-405;p<0.05), weight(r=-0.618;p<0.01), BMI (r=-0.395;p<0.05), In addition, positive relation was foundbetween 3.region?s average reaction speed (r=0.498;p<0.01), 5. region?s averagereaction speed (r=0.362;p<0.05) and 6. region?s sit-ups tests ( r=0.468;p<0.01). .When the difference between regions was studied in regard to parameters, nodifference was found between push-ups, flamingo average, paw power, visualreaction time speed. In regard to grade average; 1. region was positive(p<0.05). Inregard to the % fat 1. region was negative(p<0.05). In regard to total physical fitness;a difference was found between 5. region?s % fat and 7. region?s % fat which was infavour of 7.region(p<0.05). Between all regions and 7. regions in flamingo balancetest and self- esteemparameters negative difference was found (p<0.05), when thedifferences according to genders were studied; female students were positive in % fatin 7. region (p<0.05), but they were negative in flamingo balance (p<0.05). Whiledifferences wer found positively in 2. region in audiol reaction test and in gradeaverage (p<0.05) in 3.region, no difference was seen in height grade average, speedreaction, self -esteem and physical fitness.Among male students there positivedifferences; average reaction speed in region, grade avarage in 1. religion (p<0.05),total physical fitness in 5. region in 7. region (p<0.05).It was seen that there weredifference between 7. region and the other regions in flamingo balance tests(p<0.05).Key words: Physical fitness, Academic achievement, Self -esteem.vPDF created with pdfFactory Pro trial version www.pdffactory.com
