Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to investigate whether emotional intelligence and childhood psychological traumas have an effect on explaining parental behaviors, and if so, to examine what kind of effect they have. The sample of the research consists of 401 mothers and fathers. Demographic Information Form, Alabama Parental Behavior Scale, Childhood Psychological Trauma Scale and Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale were used, and the scores were analyzed by the SPSS package program. In order to examine the relationship between the participants' parental behaviors, childhood traumas and emotional intelligence levels and to reveal the direction and strength of this relationship, Pearson correlation analysis was used because the data showed normal distribution. For statistical interpretation of the data, t test and Anova analyzes were used to make comparisons between groups. According to the findings of the study, as the level of emotional neglect, inconsistent discipline, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, physical neglect and poor parenting increases in the participants, the levels of total emotional intelligence, optimism/mood regulation and evaluation of emotions decrease. As positive parenting and caring for the child increases, emotional abuse, physical abuse, physical neglect and emotional neglect decrease while total emotional intelligence, optimism/mood regulation and emotional evaluation levels increase
