Abstract (EN)
From a geotechnical point of view, liquefaction, which is one of the most important soil damages during an earthquake, is the phenomenon that occurs in saturated sandy, silty soils with the dynamic effect of the earthquake or when the soil resistance decreases with sudden loading and the ground behaves almost like a liquid. In this study, it was aimed to determine the soil liquefaction potential of Van province İpekyolu, Edremit and Tusba districts. The physical properties of the soil were determined by performing laboratory tests on the soil samples and the SPT results obtained from 43 drillings in the study area, and a database was created for the analyzes and the liquefaction safety factor was calculated for the soil layers at a depth of 1.5 meters. Thus, the liquefaction potential of the study area was revealed by evaluating the results obtained. Using Microsoft Excel, an office program for liquefaction analysis, four different earthquake magnitudes (Mw=6.0; 6.5; 7.0; 7.5), the liquefaction risk potential of the study area was revealed by calculating the values of the liquefaction safety factor at every 1.5 m depth of the drillings within the scope of the study. As a result, liquefaction potential maps for four different earthquake magnitudes were created using the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Global Mapper (20.1) program. According to the results obtained regarding the liquefaction potential, it has been observed that the study area carries a liquefaction risk for earthquake magnitudes (Mw= 6.5; 7.0; 7.5) in İpekyolu, Edremit and Tusba districts. For earthquake magnitude (Mw= 6.0), liquefaction risk was not observed in many boreholes, while liquefaction risk was detected in some. However, in the presence of groundwater and sandy silty soils in the study area, more comprehensive investigations are required due to the seismic characteristics of the region.
