Skatepark site selection with Multi-Criteria Decision Making method based Geographic Information System: The case of Bolu

In this study, the skate park site selection process is examined using Geographic Information System (GIS) and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods. Within the scope of the thesis, seven alternative places are used with the help of Geographic Information System (GIS) on the example of Bolu province; By consulting the expert team consisting of municipal administrators and skateboard users, seven criteria that are essential for the skateboard park were determined. In order to evaluate the alternatives within the framework of the criteria, 7 architects and engineers from the Parks and Gardens Directorate of Bolu Municipality; A survey was conducted among a total of 49 experts, 10 of whom were staff members, 12 of whom were urban and regional planners, and 20 of whom were local skateboard users. The data obtained from the survey were analyzed with CRITIC and ARAS methods. The results of the research revealed that the most effective criteria in choosing a skate park location are "integration with other parks" and "area size". These criteria have been identified as important determining factors by both municipal employees and skateboard users. On the other hand, "ease of transportation" was determined as the least important criterion; In line with these criteria, it turned out that the most suitable alternative was "Atatürk Forest Park". This thesis aims to contribute to planning and decision-making processes by showing how geographic information systems and multi-criteria decision-making methods can be used effectively in skate park location selection processes. These findings can provide an important resource in the fields of urban planning and sports facilities management related to skate parks, guiding the design and site selection of similar projects.
