Abstract (EN)

Geographical Information System (GIS) is a computer system capable of assembling, storing, and displaying geographically referenced information. A GIS is the use of software, hardware, data together. GIS technology can be used for scientific investigations, resource management, and development planning. Some applications of a GIS include geological, agricultural, land use, and geographical subjects. Remote Sensing (RS) is the science and art of acquiring information about the earth's surface without actually being in contact with it. Large areas can be analyzed of in a short time and also fault zones kilometers in length can be mapped, besides that some small fault or joints which cannot be observed at field can be seen by using of RS techniques.. It provides very useful results to use both GIS and RS techniques together. Nowadays if someone thinks about importance of time and man power, it is impossible to ignore of increasing importance of using together these two systems. The purpose of thes study is the application of GIS to to the settlement area of Burdur province. For this purpose city map with 1/5000 scale of the region, engineering geology, hidrogeology, slope and liquefaction maps were digitized. Furthermore, geological map of the region was made by using of RS techniques and then digitized. All maps, were transformed into numerical data and were formed as separate layers, were pooled by means of Arc View program. Suitability map of the settlement area of the region was formed by querying primerly obtained maps. Key Words: Geographical Information Systems, Digitizing, Remote Sensing
