Abstract (EN)
The human visual system İs the most powerful cognition system known. Maps, the oldest communication mean, are traditionally used to visualize information in geographic space. Developments in computer science and technologies have resulted in arising new techniques besides maps for visualization of geographic data. By combining technologies such as image processing, computer graphics, animation, simulation, multimedia, and virtual reality, computers can help present information in a new way so that patterns can be found, greater understanding can be developed, and problems can be solved. New techniques mentioned above for visualization of geographic information have begun to use commonly in cartography and geoinformatics. This enables us to more comprehensively understand our living real world. In this study digital topographic map of YTU Davutpaşa Campus is first 3D visualized with Maplnfo Professional and Vertical Mapper and then an animation is created with 3D Studio VIZ. This study consists often chapters. In chapter one, an introduction is given. In chapter two, general definitions and concepts relating to visualization is given. In chapter three, relations between modern cartography and geographic visualization are given with emphasis on cartographic and visualization strategies for visualization. In chapter four, visualization of traditional maps is described. This chapter includes geographic objects, choice of signatures. In chapter five, dynamic visualization of geographic information İs described. This chapter includes, dynamic variations, animation, simulation, multimedia, virtual reality. Chapter six gives some information about the visualization software. Chapter seven is the application chapter. This chapter gives information about the application. Chapter eight is the conclusion chapter. Keywords: Visualization, cartographic visualization, geographic visualization, 3D modeling, map, 3D map, visualization of maps, YTU Davutpaşa campus.
