Teaching immigration in geography textbooks

The textbooks are the sources which are prepared related to values and knowledge that they wish to have countries' individuals gain. Migration is the subject of a Geography book in secondary education. The subject of migration is a multidimensional spatial change process in context of reasons and causes. In this study, it is tended to examine the migration by taking account in the secondary textbooks of geography (9,10,11 and 12 classes). The research was conducted by descriptive screening method, which is one of the qualitative research types. The data were obtained by using the document analysis technique. In the research, four textbooks determined for the purpose of collecting data were examined. In the research, it was thought that revealing which aspects of migration are covered in geography textbooks will contribute to the authors in book preparation commissions, researchers on the topic of migration in literature and teachers who are primarily responsible for teaching the subject. According to the results of research, it is thought that the content dimension of the textbooks related to teaching migration should be prepared more up-to-date and in detail. Solution suggestions have been developed for the content of geography textbooks in order to teach subject of the migration with all its dimension.
