The contribution of trips and observations made on our naturel and cultural haritage properties on patriotism value within geography course (The example of Giresun province)

In this thesis, the contribution of high school students' visits and observations to our natural and cultural heritage assets on the patriotic value within the scope of geography course was examined according to gender, participation level, school type and field type variables. The sample of the thesis is created by randomly selecting 388 students in the 2018-2019 academic year from 1 private and 6 general high school in the city center of Giresun using Field Study Method (Screening, Descriptive, Survey). In the research, "Patriotism Scale of Geography Course" survey which was developed by researcher was used as a data collection tool. In order to determine the validity and reliability of the prepared scale, pre-treatment was applied to 78 students and the final version of the scale was applied to 388 students in the light of the findings. SPSS 17.0 package program was used in order to analyze and evaluate the data obtained from the measuring tool. As a result of the analysis, no significant difference was found between the students according to school and area type variables related to patriotism, and it was concluded that the students have a positive orientation to patriotism consciousness. According to the gender variable related to patriotism, female students are more conscious and sensitive than male students with all students have a positive attitude towards patriotism. Geography courses did not reach an adequate level in creating patriotism consciousness according to all variables, and it was concluded that the students gave negative attitudes to the expressions that the geography lessons constitute patriotism consciousness. According to the variable of participation level, it was concluded that the students participating in the trip reply more positively than the students who did not participate in the trip, that the trips and observations were effective in creating patriotism consciousness and made our natural-cultural heritage assets into the Awareness Raising Factor (FAU).
