Dr. Sema BAŞBAĞThis study was carried out to investigate the genetical behavior, evaluate F1 hybrid vigor anddetermine the suitable parents and their hybrid combinations for studied characteristics in thepopulation obtained by 7x7 half diallel quantitative analysis method involving 4 MAR (MultiAdversity Resistance) and 3 regional cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) varieties in the SoutheastAnatolia Agricultural Research Institute experimental area, in the years of 2003-2004.In the populations; plant height, first flowering time, first boll opening time, number ofmonopodial branches, number of sympodial branches, number of boll, boll weight, seed cotton weightper boll, leaf area, first picking percentage, ginning percentage, 100 seed weight, fiber length, fiberfineness and fiber elongation properties were influenced by additive; seed cotton yield, fiber strength, fiber uniformity ratio and short fiber index were influenced by non-additive gene effects. Values ofheterosis for first boll opening time, ginning percentage, 100 seed weight, fiber elongation and fiberuniformity ratio were negative, while the other characters were positive. It was determined that Sayar 314 for plant height, number of sympodial branches, seed cottonyield and fiber length, Tamcot CD3H for first flowering time, number of first fruiting branch node, number of monopodial branches, fiber uniformity ratio and short fiber index, Tamcot Sphinx for firstboll opening time and fiber strength, Stoneville 453 for number of boll and 100 seed weight, TamcotLuxor for boll weight, first picking percentage, ginning percentage and fiber elongation, Maraş 92 forseed cotton weight per boll and leaf area, Tamcot HQ 95 for fiber fineness were the best parent cottoncultivars and also having best general combining abilities. It was determined that Tamcot CD 3H xTamcot Sphinx for plant height, first flowering time, first picking percentage and number ofmonopodial branches, Maraş 92 x Tamcot Luxor, for first boll opening time, boll weight and seedcotton weight per boll, Maraş 92 x Tamcot HQ 95 for number of first fruiting branch node and fiberfineness, Sayar 314 x Tamcot Luxor for number of sympodial branches, Stoneville 453 x TamcotSphinx for number of boll and seed cotton yield, Stoneville 453 x Tamcot HQ 95 for leaf area,Tamcot HQ 95 x Tamcot Sphinx for ginning percentage and fiber elongation, Sayar 314 x Tamcot CD3H for 100 seed weight , Maraş 92 x Sayar 314 for fiber length, Maraş 92 x Tamcot HQ 95 andTamcot CD 3H x Tamcot Sphinx for fiber strength, Sayar 314 x Stoneville 453 for fiber uniformityratio and short fiber index hybrid combinations were the most promising crosses and also having bestspecific combining ability.Key Words: Cotton, MAR= Multi Adversity Resistance, general and specific combining ability, heterosis and heterobeltiosis.II
