Abstract (EN)

Communication technologies have concentrated on increasing their capacities, especially in recent years, in order to provide better communication opportunities for future generations. The increasing widespread use of wireless digital communication systems and the ever-increasing demands for high data speed and service quality have increased the efforts to accelerate the development of new communication techniques that promise more capacity. The fifth generation communication systems, called 5G today, are seen as the technology of the future and attract researchers thanks to their high performance. Especially, thanks to the modulation technique known as Multi-Carrier Filter Bank (FBMC), higher speed and performance has been achieved compared to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDM) modulation used in previous generations. In this thesis, FBMC modulation structure used in new generation 5G technology has been developed and its performance is aimed to be evaluated with comparative studies. In the thesis, the effects of blocks such as FFT/IFFT, filtering, which affect the complexity of FBMC transmitter-receiver design more, appear as important issues. In the design of the FBMC transmitter and the used prototype filter, Matlab software, Modelsim program, Simulink program and Xilinx Vivado hardware implementation program were used, and finally, applications were made on Zedboard xc7z020 FPGA board for real-time design. In particular, the FPGA-based application of FS-FBMC-OQAM (Frequency Spreading-FBMC-OQAM) and PPN-FBMC OQAM (Poly Phase Network FBMC-OQAM) techniques as the traditional approach has been made separately using Verilog language and the performance, resource usage and power consumption are comparatively given. The results show that the higher computational complexity FS-FBMC-OQAM systems have does not directly lead to higher resource utilization, making FS-FBMC a suitable technique for implementing FBMC designs on FPGA. When the results obtained showed the power of FBMC technique, it presented an important technology to the users for the new generation wireless communication systems.
