The effect of multimedia learning activities on teaching Turkish as a foreign language

The globalizing world has led to an increase in the foreign language learning needs of individuals. The use of new methods and materials has come to the fore in order to meet the increasing demand in teaching Turkish, which is among the world languages. In today's world where technology is integrated with education, learning activities using multimedia in teaching Turkish as a foreign language have shown themselves. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the effect of learning activities using multimedia on teaching Turkish as a foreign language. The quasi-experimental method with pretest-posttest control group was used in the research. The research group consists of 71 students aged 9-11, continuing their education in a primary school located in the city center of Bursa. These students are foreign students, mostly from Syria. While learning activities using multimedia were applied with the experimental group students, traditional method learning activities were carried out with the control group students. Academic achievement and language skills in teaching Turkish as a foreign language were measured using two different measurement tools. The Academic Achievement Test in Teaching Turkish to Foreigners was used to measure the academic achievement levels in Turkish, and the Turkish Language Skills Assessment Rubric was used to measure the language skill levels. As a result of the research, it was revealed that learning activities using multimedia have a significant positive contribution to the Turkish academic achievement and language skills of students compared to traditional method learning activities. It was determined that both the academic achievement levels and language skill levels of the experimental group students increased more, and their learning was more permanent. When the literature is examined, it has been seen that there are studies that support the results of the research. Based on this, it is recommended to increase the number and frequency of use of learning activities using multimedia in teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
