Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Multiple IntelligencesTheory compared to the Traditional Teaching Method on grade-9 students?achievement and retention of their knowledge about the topic of Heat-Temperature,Expansion and Compressibility. The study in which Pre-Post Test Control Group Design was used was carriedout with the students learning on the grade-9 in Eskişehir Atatürk Anadolu Meslek,Teknik ve Endüstri Meslek Lisesi during the 2005-2006 education periods. In total of70 students participated the studies which were done 2 hours a week during 2 weeks. The pre-test was applied to the students at the first week of the study. One of theclasses was chosen as Control, and other was chosen as Experimental Group. TheTraditional Teaching Method was applied to the Control group while theExperimental group was thought by using the theory of Multiple Intelligences. All lessons were carried out by the researcher and the experimental group wasexplained the Multiple Intelligences Theory for 1 period. At the first step of the study The Prior Knowledge Test was applied foridentifying student?s pre-knowledge. The Achievement Test was applied aftervicarrying out the lessons which prepared according to the lesson plans based on theTraditional Teaching Method and Multiple Intelligences Theory. Test was given tothe students one again to determine the retention of the students knowledge about thedensity after 1 month. The data obtained from this study were assessed by using computer SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Science) program. In the evolution of the hypothesis, analysis of variance One-Sample t-Test was used. The meaningful results wereacceptable as 0.05.The results of statistical analysis indicated that the teaching activities basedon the Multiple Intelligences Theory meaningfully contributed to the students?comprehension of Heat-Temperature, Expansion and Compressibility and retentionof their knowledge. It was determined that experimental group students showed moreinterest to the topics according to the observations during the lessons.
