Abstract (EN)

Celiac disease is a proximal small bowel disease in genetically susceptible individuals that develops as a permanent intolerance to gluten-like wheat and other gluten-like grain proteins in cereals such as barley, rye and oats. Nutritional therapy is the only accepted treatment method in celiac disease. Upper GIS endoscopy is recommended in patients who do not respond to a gluten-free diet and whose symptoms are relapsed. In this study, hematological and biochemistry parameters were compared before and after treatment in Celiac patients. Our aim was to examine the hematological and biochemistry parameters before and after the gluten-free diet, to demonstrate the success of treatment with an easily accessible, cheap and practical method. We aimed to investigate the usability of new inflammation markers such as neutrophıl lympocyte ratıo and mean platelet volume. For this study, 150 patients (98 females, 52 males) aged between 18-70 years who were being followed as Celiac disease in Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Medicine Gastroenterology and Internal Diseases Clinic were included. The latest laboratory results in the system and Celiac antibodies were recorded retrospectively and compared with the values at the time of diagnosis. In the study, 250 patients with a diagnosis of Celiac disease were scanned. 100 patients whose data were not available in their files were excluded from the study. As a result, a total of 150 patients, 98 female (65,3%) and 52 male (34,7%), were evaluated. In our cases, the increase in hemoglobin measurement, hematocrit values, transferrin saturation and ferritin measurement after gluten-free diet was found statistically significant (p <0.01). The increase in folate measurement after diet compared to the folate measurement before diet was statistically significant (p <0.01). In addition, the measurements of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio, mean platelet volume, vitamin B12, calcium and albumin values before and after diet were not statistically significant. As a result, there is no significant hemogram and / or biochemistry parameter other than iron parameters in the follow-up of celiac patients' diet. Currently, follow-up isdone with celiac autoantibodies in order to comply with the most meaningful treatment. Prospective studies with in larger patient groups are needed.
