Abstract (TR)

This study provides a comprehensive review and comparison of four international standards for the design of corbels, which are essential structural elements that support heavy loads in construction. The selected design codes for comparison include AS3600-2009 (The Australian Standard), CSA (Canadian Standards Association), ACI (American Concrete Institute), and EN 1992-1-1:2004 (Eurocode). By evaluating and contrasting these codes, the study seeks to identify similarities, differences, and potential implications for corbel design of 1170 different designs. The methodology involves the comparison of key parameters in detail to determine the variations among the codes and their potential impact on the design outcomes. The design methodologies of each standard are reviewed in terms of their assumptions, limitations, and complexity. The study compares five different equations taken from renowned articles to evaluate whether the load provided is correct and applicable for all the standards or not. The results received from the equations are used to find reliability indices to find a margin of safety and the probability of failure for a given corbel design. The study concludes with a summary of the findings and understanding of the design provisions for reinforced concrete corbels according to various design codes, 5 different equations and reliability indices. The study outcomes explain the importance of adhering to international codes for the safety, functionality, and load capacity of corbels in construction.
