Examination of the moderating role of social media usage in the relationship between death anxiety and hopelessness in individuals in first, middle and late adulthood during the COVID-19 pandemic period

The aim of this study is to investigate the moderator role of social media use in the relationship between death anxiety and hopelessness in individuals in first, middle and late adulthood during the COVID-19 pandemic period. The research sample; A total of 604 participants in the first, middle and last adulthood period living in Turkey were formed. Of these participants, 298 are from the first adult (22-40 years old) group, 172 are from the middle adult (41-55 years old) group, and 125 are from the last adult (56 years and over) group. "Personal Information Form", "Death Anxiety Scale", "Beck Hopelessness Scale" and "Social Media Addiction Scale" were used as data collection tools in the research. Independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation and multiple regression were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research; A significant and directly proportional relationship was found between death anxiety and hopelessness levels of individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic period. It was determined that the death anxiety level of women was significantly higher than that of male participants. It was determined that the death anxiety level of the single participants was significantly higher than the married participants. It was found that the level of death anxiety did not differ significantly according to the status of being diagnosed with covid. It was found that the level of death anxiety did not differ significantly according to age. It was determined that the level of death anxiety did not differ significantly according to education level. It was determined that the participants with an income level of 3000 TL and below were the group with the highest death anxiety. It was determined that the moderator role of social media use in the relationship between death anxiety and hopelessness did not have a statistically significant effect.
