The effect of burnout and anxiety on quality of life in nurses in COVID-19 process

The aim of this study is to reveal the effect of burnout and anxiety that nurses, who constitute the most important part of health workers, may experience during the covid-19 pandemic process on the quality of life. The universe of the research consisted of 844 nurses working at Elazig Fethi Sekin City Hospital. Accordingly, the sample of the study was determined as 265 and 302 nurses were reached. The data of the study were collected by questionnaire method between January 2021 and March 2021. "Maslach Burnout Scale", "World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale Short Form WHOQOL-BREF (TR)" and "Anxiety Scale" created by the researcher were graded according to the 5-point Likert system. The number of evaluated questionnaires is 302. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 program. The main analyzes used in the research are frequency distribution, reliability analysis, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that nurses' general burnout perceptions and emotional burnout sub-dimension perceptions were at a mediocre level, while their depersonalization and personal achievement sub-dimension perceptions were at a low level during the covid-19 process. When the nurses' quality of life levels are examined; general perception level and psychological, physical, social and environmental perceptions were also found to be at a mediocre level. In addition, when the anxiety levels of nurses were examined in this study; general perception levels were found to be high. As a result of the research, it was determined that nurses' burnout and anxiety perceptions negatively affected their quality of life. It has been determined that the perceptions of emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment, which are sub-dimensions of burnout, affect the quality of life negatively, and the dimension of depersonalization does not affect the quality of life negatively.
