Evaluation of dent corn varieties (Zea mays indentata Sturt.) for major plant traits, yield componenets and grain yield grown in Cukurova conditions

Abstract (EN)

In this study, 20 dent corn hybrid varieties provided by the private seed companies and research organizations which were commonly grown in Çukurova Region Conditions were grown on the field of Çukurova University, Research and Application farm according to Randomised Complete Block Design to evaluate agromorphological plant traits, grain yield and yield components in 2015 crop season. According to results of the experiment, all genotypes were statistically significant for tasseling and ear taft periods, plant height, ear height, stem thickness, ear length, ear diameter, ear weight, the number of kernel rows, number of grains per cob, grain yield per cob, grain cob rate, 1000 grain weight, test weight, grain moisture at harvest and grain yield per plant out of the number of plants per plot and number of kernels per row on the cob. Comparatively higher grain yield per plant observed for the 75 MAY75, SY INOVE and 73 MAY81 dent corn varieties. According to correlation coefficients, grain yield was found to be positive correlated to plant height, cob length, cob diameter, weight of cob, number of kernels per row on the cob, number of the kernels per cob, grain yield per cob, 1000 grain weight and grain moisture at harvest.
