The profile of students who use Çukurova university computer sciences application and research center’s internet labaratories and investigate it according to some variables

New developments in the field of Information and communication Technologies(ICT), particularly the Internet, have been simplified accessing the resources ofinformation. Universities should follow these developments. In order to use existopportunities with full capacity and develop new strategies, it is very important to knowthe profile of student who use internet laboratories.In this research, profile of Internet users was obtained and investigatedaccording to some variables.The main aim of research is to determine demographic properties of the studentswho connect to internet via laboratories of University, find out their knowledge levelabout computer software and hardware, and determine their usage frequency of Internetservices and attitude toward Internet.The participants were 964 students who attend to various faculties of Universityof Çukurova and use Internet laboratories of University of Çukurova, ComputerSciences, Application and Research Center between November - December 2004period. The questionnaire that developed by researcher was used to collect data.vSome important results of this research includes (a) boys are use Internet morethan girls; (b) 47 percent of student has their own computer at home; (c) 18 percent ofstudent has online connect from home; (d) 45 percent of student says they learncomputer by himself; (e) 52 percent of student says they learn Internet by himself; (f)The most used Internet service by users is e-mail; and (g) 90 percent of student says that?Internet is a rapid and effective tool for access information resources?.Key Words: Purposes of using Internet, Internet in universities, Internet user profile ofuniversity students, information technology, communication technology.
