Evaluation of the forensic cases applying to the evaluation committee of Çukurova University Medical Faculty for forensic cases between 2005-2017

Objective : In our study, we aimed to evaluate the psychosocial, psychiatric and forensic characteristics of the cases of sexual abuse, and to evaluate the sociodemographic characteristics of the cases, the forensic processes they encountered and the psychiatric problems occurring after their forensic events with their individual, social, social and cultural results. Material and Methods : The study included 1716 sexual abuse cases of 1327 girls, 389 boys, evaluated between January 2005 and December 2017 and cases were studied retrospectively. Results: The mean age of the patients was 13.85 ± 3.64 (girls = 14.7 ± 41.4 years, male = 10.8 ± 3.6 years). 7.9% of mothers; while 4.1% of the fathers had mental illness; 12.2% of fathers had alcohol use. 484 (28.2% ) of the cases were divorced. Type of sexual abuse was 303 (17.6% ) friction, 445 (25.9% ) genital penetration, 279 (16.2% ) anal penetration, 26 (1.5% ) oral penetration, while 870 (50.7% ) of the cases had a history of recurrent abuse, 56.8% of males and 51.3% of females had penetration. While 34.2% of cases were neglected; 18.1% had physical abuse. Of the cases, 7,8% (n = 133) had a father, 4.3% (n = 74) had brother, 10,2% (n = 174) had relatives, 50,5% (n = 860) out of all the acquaintances, 3,7% (n = 63) of the unmarried partner, 1,4% (n = 23) of the step-father and 19,2% (n = 327) of the foreigners were abusers. While 16.4% of the cases were hiding the abuse; 12.3% of the families concealed the abuse, and 18.1% of the families were accused of accusing the child. Conclusions: There was a close relationship between sexual abuse cases of age, gender, maternal education status and history of mental illness, father's education status, mental illness and alcohol use history, separation of parents, development of institution care, neglect and physical abuse.
