Abstract (EN)

Determination of Ethanol Biomarkers (Ethyl Glucuronide and Ethyl Sulfate) in Alcohol Analysis Specimens in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Alcohol use disorders worldwide are directly or indirectly affecting many people's lives by causing many sociological, psychological, medical and judicial problems. Detection of ethanol intake in Forensic Sciences is an important issue. It is of utmost importance to show ethanol intake during traffic accidents, sexual assaults, suicides and murders. However, the concentration of blood and other body fluids can not be detected shortly after ethanol is taken. This situation causes problems in Forensic Science. For all these reasons, it is not enough to detect ethanol in body fluids only when ethanol intake is determined. Therefore, it is necessary to look at ethanol metabolites as well as ethanol detection. There are some limitations of the method based on the determination of indirect ((alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT), Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT)) in the presence of chronic and dense ethanol intake. This method is not sensitive enough and specific. Ethyl alcohol minor metabolites - ethyl glucuronide (EtG), ethyl sulphate (EtS) - have become more prevalent in recent years in detecting alcohol intake because of their high sensitivity and specificity. Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) and Ethyl Sulfate (EtS) are more preferred because of their stability and specificity as well as their limited limitations. In addition, it is very important to show acute and chronic alcohol consumption in order to prevent occupational accidents in some risky occupational groups. In this case, it is important to determine ethanol minor metabolites. In this study, blood samples sent for alcohol analysis from Ç.Ü Medical Faculty Forensic Medicine Department were quantitatively determined with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) technique and Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) and Ethyl Sulfate (EtS) and compared with blood alcohol concentration.
