Indications of in vitro fertilization at infertil couples that registirate to çukurova university

Our aim in this study is to investigate in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection indications at infertile couples who administrated to our clinic. 866 couples attending to the infertility clinics of the gynecology and obstetrics department of the medicine faculty of Çukurova Univesity and having indications of in vitro fertilization, intracytoplasmic sperm injection and embriyo transfer were reviwed according to the indications and the etiology of the infertility. History of the patients by serum basal estradiol and follicle stimulating hormone levels, hysterosalpingography, body mass index, the city werethey are living results of the laparotomy, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, age, spermiogram, the results of the testis biopsy, concomitant disease and family history were evaluated. We evaluated 866 couples the indication for in vitro fertilization- intracytoplasmic sperm injection was male factor in 379 couples (43.8 %), unexplained infertility on 313 couples (36.1 %), female factor in 153 couples(17.7 %), both male and female factors in 21 couples. 82 patients (53.6 %) had tuboperitoneal factor, 29 patients (19 %) had oligoanovulation, 37 patients (24.2 %) had endometriosis, 5 patients (3.3 %) had oligoanovulation with concomitant endometriosis of the 153 patients in the female factor group. In our study the rates of the male factor and unexplained infertility were higher. The rates of the female factor was low. The high ratio of the male factor was thought to be related to the dry and hot summers of the Akdeniz climate and slip underclothes, so as a result of this, testicles approached to the body and the temperature of the testicles were relatively high. The area were we are living is an industrial and agricultural region of our country, and this can be related to the female factor by means of the uncontrolled use of in the insecticides and their effects, but further toxicologic study should be done in this subject. The marriage of the relatives is often in our country. The high ratio of the marriage of the close relatives cause differences in the gene incidence in the population. The people having the same gene and genotype increase. These conditions can be related to the few sperm count.
