Abstract (EN)

Animal barns are buildings which are built for protecting animals from unsuitable environmental conditions and for obtaining optimum production. Heat stress is a major problem for the broiler industry. Providing optimum temperature and relative humidity conditions in poultry house is important for creating an optimum environment for animals, thereby high production.In this study, temperature and relative humidity were measured by using data loggers in a broiler house which was built in Adana. The environment and the ventilation in poultry houses are examined from technical point of view and especially the evaporative cooling of poultry houses are focused on. The barn was evaluated in terms of environmental conditions using the measured data and compared with literature values. The optimum values used in the design of regional barns were determined by comparing the measured and literature values.The result of study conducted in Çukurova region showed that broiler houses with mechanical aeration and evaporative cooling had inappropriate environmental conditions, which directly affect broiler performances. For the region where the mean outside temperature and relative humidity in winter seasons are 13°C and 74% and summer seasons are 28°C and 77%, respectively. It is suggested that broiler houses should be designed by considering the extreme seasons and the mean outside temperatures and relative humidity should ranged between 13°C - 28°C and 75%, respectively.
