Investigation of primary school mathematics teachingprograms from the mathematical literacy perspectiveof The Republican Period

In this study, it was aimed to determine which aspects and how mathematical literacy concept was taken into consideration in the curriculum of primary school mathematics teaching program implemented in the Republican period. Through this study, it has been tried to reveal what kind of change has been experienced periodically in primary school mathematics education programs. For this purpose, the study is designed as a document review of qualitative research methods. The data set of the study consists of the written texts of the primary school mathematics teaching programs implemented in the Republican period. A descriptive analysis of the curricula was conducted based on the themes determined by using the concept of mathematics literacy in the literature. In addition, content analyzes of the curricula were conducted under each theme. The themes that direct the analysis of the study and describe the concept of mathematics literacy are as follows: (1) mathematical reasoning, (2) the relationship of mathematical knowledge with the real world, (3) associating mathematics with other courses, (4) the use of mathematical tools, (5) knowledge and use of communication technologies, (6) reasoning, (7) inter-representation relationships. Throughout the history of the republic, mathematical reasoning, reasoning, and interrelation with other subjects have always been among the prominent and prominent subjects. In addition, when we look at the primary school mathematics education programs from a historical perspective, we are concerned about the mathematics of the students.
