Abstract (EN)
Considering that the content of textbooks is influenced by periodic conditions, It is important to examine changes in Ottoman image through history textbooks throughout the history of the Republic. For this reason, in this research, The Ottoman image in the history textbooks taught in between 1931-2018 is examined. Since the study covers a long period; The history textbooks are categorized as Turkish History Thesis, Humanist History, Turkish-Islamic Synthesis and post-2007 period. In the study which was designed as a qualitative research, document analysis was used as data collection technique and descriptive scanning model was used as research model. As a result of the research, in the history textbooks of the Turkish History Thesis Period; The Ottoman's establishment and ascension periods were presented as positive image within the framework of Turkish identity. In the period of regression and fall, it was seen that the Ottoman image, which was reflected positively, turned into negative. It is possible to say that this negation was made to the administrative order through the personalities of the sultans. In Humanist History Approach history textbooks; a successful administrative order was mentioned in terms of the characteristics of leadership, personality and statesmanship of the sultans of Ottoman establishment and ascension period. In the periods of regression and fall, a corrupt administrative order was mentioned over the inadequacies of the sultans. In the periods of regression and fall, a corrupt administrative order was mentioned over the inadequacies of the sultans. In this context, it was determined that a positive Ottoman image was reflected in the establishment and ascension in the period of the Humanist History Approach, while a negative Ottoman image was reflected in the period of regression and fall. In the history textbooks of the Turkish-Islamic Synthesis period; Contrary to the aforementioned periods, it was seen that a perfect Ottoman Empire was constructed in its entirety which was idealized over the sultans. In the textbooks after 2007, the effects of many Turkish History Thesis periods, the Humanist History Approach period and the Turkish-Islamic Synthesis period are partly seen in the textbooks. However, it was found that these insights did not directly affect the content of history textbooks. In this context, it was found that history textbooks were influenced by periodic factors and as a result of this effect the Ottoman image changed depending on the periods.
