Gender in Turkish theatre of Rebublic Era (1960-1980).

This study thematically analyses Turgut Özakman's Kanaviçe (1960), Adalet Ağaoğlu's Evcilik Oyunu (1964) and Çatıdaki Çatlak (1966), Cahit Atay's Ana Hanım Kız Hanım (1964), Hidayet Sayın's Pembe Kadın (1965), Orhan Asena's Fadik Kız (1966) Güngör Dilmen Kalyoncu's Kurban (1967), Nezihe Meriç's Sular Aydınlanıyordu (1969) Vasıf Ongoren's Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur (1969), Gulten Akın's Babil'de Bir Kadın (1960-1970), Ülker Köksal's Sacide (1972) and Nezihe Araz's BozkirGuzellemesi(1975) called twelve theatre plays, which were written between the years of 1960s and 1980s in the Republic Period in terms of gender. In this study the issues about gender, gender roles, division of labor, gender stereotypes, gender division and prejudices against gender, gender division in the mass medium are explained. In addition to this, the history of gender dating from early ages to the present day is emphasized and the question of how gender is formed is tried to be explained through the theory of psychoanalytic theory, biological theory, social learning theory, cognitive development theory and gender schema theory. The fact that phenomenon of gender, which involves the extensive framework ranging from family to society, from private life to education life, from urban to rural area, appears in the theatre plays that are reflection of life is identified with some examples from the theatre plays through some kind of examination.It is desirable to show that the gender roles in Turkish society have not undergone any change over the years, through the selected games being handled in chronological order in the themes of oppression and exploitation, marriage, remaining a spinster, dowry and early marriage, infertility and gambling, sexuality and pudicity, education and economy.
