Özet (EN)
In this thesis, which its name is ?A Study About New Year Celebrations in Republic Period?, the aim is to examine the differences about celebrating new year through 80 years (1926-2006) with giving details about these main topics:1.?Noel? and ?new year celebrations? (31 December celebrations) hasn?t got the same meaning. Noel belongs only to the Christian people. On the other hand, most of the people all around the world are celebrating new year in their houses or in big city areas. On this topic, the important point is, to get realized about new year celebrations isn?t secular.2.Noel and Santa Claus aren?t real, they have got mythological background.3.For the new year celebrations In Turkey, Santa Claus character is always used by a lot of advertisement companies. This situation doesn?t contain any Turkish cultural point of view because in Turkish mythology, ?Hızır? symbolizes new year. So, firstly, advertisement companies, secondly the society members can use ?Hızır? instead of ?Santa Claus? for celebrating new year.4.In Turkey, adorning pine trees, buying lottery tickets and presents are the pratics for celebrating new year.
