"Sexuality" in post-republic Turkish painting

When we look at the history of humanity, although sexuality has never lost its importance for humans, it has always been kept up to date. In this study, the development process of the theme of sexuality in the history of art from the past to the present is briefly mentioned. While sexuality was obviously prominent in Ancient Greece and Rome, with the adoption of Christianity, pictures were covered and only depicting religious subjects. As Europe lived in the Renaissance, trust inreligion decreased and the human body became the subject of the picture again. The artist, who was completely liberated with modern art, produced works with a distinctivesexuality them The theme of sexuality in Turkish painting art pre and post Republic has dealt with the process in the socio-cultural structure. Withthe depiction ban introduced by Islam, Turks remained away from the art of painting. Miniature art gained importance during the period when Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror was on the throne. In miniature art, where the ban on depictions was broken, the theme of nudity began to be seen in many miniatures, especially Adam and Eve. Miniature, which used to be the art of the palace, started to be the subject of ordinary public life as a result of the weakening of the Ottoman Empire and became the subject of the obscene entertainment concept of daily life. With the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the tendency to become Western started to Show itself in the field of art. In this way, the Ottoman was introduced to the western sense of painting. While it was not possible to make nude-themed paintings in Turkish painting art vii before the Republic, after the proclamation of the Republic, artists found a free space andstarted to produce nude paintings. Anatomical concerns were motivated rather than sexuality in the first period nude paintings, and in thefollowing processes, the theme of sexualitywas clearly used.
