Abstract (EN)
An important part of the world's land area covers mountainous areas.These regions have been neglected by the administrative managements despite having a significant density of population and rich natural resources.Thus,due to the negative effects caused by the arising economic conditions and human factor,the ecological system of mountainous areas came under threat that will attract the attention of the world.At the "Development and Environment Conference" held in Rio in 1992,especially the mountain management is discussed and the rational management of mountainous regions and resources have been highlighted.Also the necessity of implementation of priority policies for socio-economic development of people who are directly or indirectly dependent to these areas,have been revealed.The Council of Europe stood on improvement of living conditions in mountainous areas within the scope of sustainable development and has been addressed as solution-oriented in conjunction with the "Draft European Charter of Mountainous Regions" adopted by the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in 1995.The United Nations declared the year 2002 "The World Year of Mountains" and the mountainous areas of interest increased further.In this context, implemented in 2003, " Yuntdağı Region Sustainable Rural Development Project " Sustainable Mountain Management has set an important example.In this study, the perspective of the concept of sustainable development in rural areas, the main problems encountered in mountainous regions, and there management needs of the regions and mountain management strategies and regional development policies as well as the Regional Development Agencies, with emphasis on the scope and content of sustainable mountain management are examined.In connection with this review, the Council of Europe and the Carpathian Mountains mountain management philosophy is discussed within the framework of the subject work.Hence mountainous area in Turkey, which is one of management and its applications Yuntdağı Region Sustainable Rural Development Project was evaluated in conjunction with a field study.Keywords: Sustainable Development, Regional Development, Sustainable Mountain Management, Council of Europe Charter for Regional Rough Draft, Yuntdağı Region Sustainable Rural Development Project
