Abstract (EN)
The purpose of the study was to create a scientific sours giving detailed and collective information with regard to fiber and thread features of narrow woven fabric structures, the preparation process of weaving, machinery features for narrow weaving, knitting structures and fields of usage. The sampling of the study was comprised of 31 industrial businesses registered in Istanbul Chamber of Industry and 10 businesses of narrow weaving registered in the Bursa Chamber of Industry, 41 businesses in total, which were all determined and reached depending on their quality of representation. The data was collected through a survey of literature at limited number, interviews with the authorities of businesses, observations and examinations in the place and sample analyses of narrow woven fabrics. At the end of the research, it was found that mostly cotton thread was used out of the natural fibers in the structure of narrow woven fabrics, and polyester, polypropylene, polyurethane (elastin) and polyacrylonitrile, other fibers and threads from completely artificial fibers were used depending on their intensity in usage respectively. It was also found that the weaving machines having a system of opening shedding with eccentric and a shuttle system with a needle were used in almost all of the narrow weaving businesses included in the research. These are mostly simple and powerful machines used for simple structure knitting with 20 frames at most, having limited design ability, higher speed production and less cost of maintenance. Weft report is 8 as the highest. The border of the fabric that is not unravelled is performed through 5 different systems. It was found that bezayağı and variables, fustian and variables in particular fustian, satin, empowered and multi-ply fabrics were used in the production of narrow woven fabrics; fustian, satin, lance and face to face fabrics were used in the floor and that knitting made up of bezayağı and variables were used in the design and borders. As the unravelled border knitting, mostly an assisted system was used, whereas an unassisted system was used in the elastic structured ones. In addition, a classification was made according to knitting analyses of the samples, also some samples having different knitting types and design features, and depending on the fields of usage for narrow weavings.
