Abstract (EN)
In this study the relationship between media and democracy in periods of the coup is examined in the context of the news published on the first pages of the newspapers in the sample. By using critical discourse analysis method the study sticks to the topics covered in macro stucture. Using the analysis schema of Teun A. Van Dijk, the role of news that are published in the Turkish media and the relationship between media and democracy during the coup periods are discussed. The study covers three coups happened in Turkey. These are; 27 May 1960, 12 September 1980 and lastly 15 July 2016 Military Coups. The newspapers in the sample are "Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Milliyet, Tercüman and Vatan" for the 27 May 1960 Military Coup, "Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Milliyet and Tercüman" for the 12 September 1980 Military Coup and "Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Milliyet, Sözcü and Vatan" for the 15 July 2016 Military Coup according to the coup periods. The study aims to shed light on the bilateral relations between media and democracy through the news in the printed press.
