The most effective thing that nourishes the soul of a child is literature. Literature improves a child?s imagination. Child is an existence who continue to evolve both as bodily and mentally. While a child is growing up, literature is the richest source that can help her or him to know herself or himself better, to feel herself or himself as a part of society and to learn moral values of that society.?The Book of Dede Korkut? is an important literary source that can be useful for children during their process of growth and introduce them their culture in which they are. In addition, ?The Book of Dede Korkut? is very valuable as it has moral values of Turkish culture in itself.Talking about the adventures of Oguz tribes and being accepted as the work of the transition period from epic poem to folk tales, this work is useful for children?s education as it creates ideal type.Through the stories of heroes, good messages are gotten to reader. The using of ?The Book of Dede Korkut? will be good for children?s education as it talks about the necessity of work to be valuable in the society, superiority of spirituality than materiality, badness of lying, holiness of nature and native country, importance of family and unity of family, requirement of respect to family values, equality of women in the society, requirement of being generous and sharing and says that loyalty is one of the most valuable feelings and brave people will be more successful in the life.Key Words: Dede Korkut, children, education
