Abstract (EN)

Adjectives are one of the most argued topics of grammar and linguistics. Yet the question of "Is adjective a word class or a function" has kept the researchers minds occupied till today. In this study we take the adjectives as a word class and tried to evaluate the morphological and syntactic properties of attributive adjectives in Book of Dede Qorqud by a semantical basis. Method of the study bases upon the semantic types theory by R.M.W. Dixon. Attributive adjectives in the Dresden transcript of The Book of Dede Qorqud are categorized as DIMENSION, PHYSICAL PROPERTIES, COLOUR, HUMAN PROPENSITIES, AGE, VALUE, SPEED according to Dixon's theory, and in each category , for semantics; which word class or semantic type the adjectives belong in deep level and do these change in surface and oppositional situations of these adjectives are examined, for morphology; roots of attributive adjectives and the words derived from attributive adjectives are determined, and for syntax; different functions that attributive adjectives under take in a sentence and phrases founded by attributive adjectives and the properties of these phrases are identified. To determine the attributive adjectives in The Book of Dede Qorqud we benefited from the Dede Korkut Araştırmalar, Notlar/ Dizin/ Metin by Saadettin ÖZÇELİK which is published in 2005. This master thesis is supported by Uşak University BAP (Scientific Research Projects ) department with 2013/TP011 project number.
