The effect of mycorrhiza inoculation and growth media on growth and improvement of bay laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) and carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.)

The aim of study was to determine the effect of mycorrhizal (Glomus caledonium, G. clarium) inoculation on the carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.) and laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) seedlings growth, nutrient uptake and viability rate under nursery and field conditions.Experiment was conducted in two stages. In first stage, mycorrhizal and non mycorrhizal carob and laurel seedlings were growth under nursery conditions. In second stages, seedlings were transplanted to the experiment area under field conditions. Mycorrhizal inoculation was done during the seedlings production. Growth parameters (diameter, height, dry weight), shoot and root nutrient contents (P, K, Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn) and mycorrhizal root colonization rates were determined.The results are shown that mycorrhiza inoculation under nursery and field conditions has not significantly effected growth parameters and nutrient contents of the carob seedlings. Carob seedlings better growth under non-sterile growth media conditions. G. caledonium inoculated laurel seedling significantly increased growth, nutrient uptake, viability rate and root infection under sterile growth media conditions.
