Values education oriented maths teaching: 5 th class instance

This research consist of 5th class earnings in "Numbers and Operation" and "Geometry and Measurament" learning areas. Subject of this research is how and with which activities could be done in values education oriented maths teaching. Research aimed to present an example in practiceand offer suggestions about supporting values and skills according to activity results. This research made because 5th Class Math Lessons has no activity about solidarity, sensitivity of historical heritage, sensitivity to natural environment, animal philantrophy, respect for cultural heritage and keeping envionment clean, and the absence of activities lack of awareness about the values above. The research carried on for 10 weeks in 2021-2022 Academic Year with 8 activities over 12 boys and 8 girls at 5th Class. Easily accesible samples picked during the research. The data get through documents (activities, video records, dialogues ect.), meetings, participant observations, semi- structured interview and qualitative research method/activity method is used. The data obtained subjected to descriptative and content analysis. As a result of research it is observed students have positive thinking and started to raise awareness. As a result of activities it is observed a big part of students had targeted gains andand critical thinking, problem solving, attribution and reasoning, effective communication, social participation, empathizing, understanding space, time and chronology skills. Moreover respect for elders, love of friends, scientificy, diligence, solidarity, respect for religious days, sensivity to religious and spiritual elements, sensivity to natural environment, nature love, aesthetic sensivity, sacrifice, animal philantrophy, valuing people, not to waste, sensitivity to protecting cultural heritage, mercy, sensitivity to national and universal values, music love, share, care about being healthy respect for art, respect, love, taking responsibility, sensitivity to historical heritage, sensitivity to social events, respect to Turkish Elders are observed as a researh finding. In line with research results, teachers could be recommended to go through with activities for values education and prepare age appropriate lesson plans and Ministry of Education could be recommended to set qualification training for teachers.
